B2B SaaS Sales Jobs for Freshers in India: How to Get Started in 2026

A Path Most Graduates Never Consider

If you are graduating in India without an engineering degree or a top-tier MBA, the standard advice runs out quickly. Campus placements favour a narrow set of profiles. Off-campus applications disappear into portals. And most of the roles that remain pay ₹3–4 LPA with limited growth.

B2B SaaS sales sits slightly outside that map, which is exactly why it is worth knowing about. It is one of the few fields in India where a fresher can reach ₹8–12 LPA within two to three years, where your degree matters far less than your performance, and where companies actively hire people with no industry background.

This guide covers which roles are realistic for freshers, what companies look for, and how to actually get in.

What B2B SaaS Sales Means

SaaS stands for software as a service, meaning software sold by subscription rather than a one-time purchase. B2B means the customer is another business rather than an individual consumer.

So a B2B SaaS sales role involves selling software subscriptions to companies. Instead of convincing one person to buy a course or a policy, you are helping a business solve an operational problem, usually with several people involved in the decision.

India has become a significant hub for this, both through home-grown companies like Freshworks, Zoho, Darwinbox, Chargebee and Keka, and through international firms that build outbound teams in India to sell into US and European markets.

The Realistic Entry Role: SDR

Almost every fresher entering this field starts as a Sales Development Representative, sometimes called Business Development Representative.

The role involves researching target companies, identifying the right people to contact, running outreach through calls, emails and LinkedIn, having short qualifying conversations, and booking meetings for senior Account Executives who handle the close.

You are not closing deals in year one, and that is by design. The SDR role exists to teach the fundamentals of the pipeline before you own revenue.

Freshers typically enter in the ₹4–8 LPA range depending on the company and market, with roles selling into international markets paying at the higher end.

Why Companies Hire Freshers Here

Unlike most corporate functions, SaaS sales teams hire aggressively from non-traditional backgrounds. Three reasons:

The skill is teachable but the temperament is not. Companies can train prospecting methodology in weeks. They cannot train someone to enjoy conversations or recover from rejection. So they screen for temperament and train the rest.

Sales teams scale fast. A funded SaaS company doubling revenue needs to double its pipeline, which means hiring SDRs continuously. That creates steady openings that do not depend on annual campus cycles.

Fresh candidates come without bad habits. Some managers prefer training someone from zero over unlearning approaches picked up in transactional sales roles.

What They Screen For

Four things come up in almost every SDR interview process.

Communication clarity. Can you explain something complicated simply, in both speech and writing? Written communication matters more than most freshers expect, because a large share of pipeline comes from cold email.

Resilience. Expect a question about a time you failed or were rejected. They are watching how you talk about it, not what happened.

Curiosity about business. Do you understand how companies make money? Can you talk about why a business might buy software? You do not need an MBA for this, but blank curiosity is a red flag.

Coachability. Managers often give live feedback during interviews to see whether you adjust or defend. Adjusting is the right answer.

How to Actually Get Hired as a Fresher

Learn the vocabulary first

Before applying, understand ARR versus MRR, churn, customer acquisition cost, what an ICP is, and what qualification means. A candidate who can use these terms naturally sounds like someone who will ramp quickly. This takes days, not months.

Build something before you apply

Pick a real SaaS company. Research their ideal customer. Build a list of 20 prospects who fit. Write three cold emails targeting that persona. Record yourself handling common objections.

This portfolio is the single biggest differentiator available to a fresher, because virtually nobody else does it. When every other applicant submits a resume, submitting evidence changes the conversation entirely.

Use your college experience honestly

You have more relevant material than you think. Selling sponsorships for a college fest is B2B sales. Running a club and coordinating across teams is stakeholder management. A freelance project you pitched and delivered is a full sales cycle. Frame these in outcome terms rather than as extracurriculars.

Go directly to hiring managers

Job portals are the slowest route in. A posted SDR role receives hundreds of applications, and freshers rarely survive the filter.

Instead, find the sales manager or SDR lead at companies you want to join, and message them directly with something specific: what you understand about their product, who you think their customer is, and the work you have already done. This is the same skill the job requires, so doing it well is your audition.

Which Companies to Target

Broadly three categories, each with trade-offs.

Established Indian SaaS companies — Freshworks, Zoho, Darwinbox, Chargebee, Keka and similar. Better structured training, clearer processes, moderate starting pay, strong brand value on your resume.

Funded startups — faster promotion, more responsibility earlier, sometimes equity, but less training structure and more ambiguity.

Companies selling to US and European markets from India — highest compensation for freshers, but often evening or night shifts. Worth considering seriously if you can handle the hours, because the pay difference is substantial.

What the First Two Years Look Like

Months one to three are ramp: learning the product, the market, the tooling, and making a lot of mistakes on calls. Expect discomfort.

Months four to twelve are where you either find your rhythm or do not. Consistency matters more than brilliance here.

Year two typically brings a Senior SDR promotion for those hitting targets, with a meaningful pay increase, and the beginnings of a conversation about moving toward an Account Executive role.

By year three, strong performers are often in closing roles with substantially higher earnings. This is why the path is worth the difficult first year.

Be Clear About the Trade-Off

This is not an easy first job. You will face rejection daily, targets reset monthly, and the work is repetitive by design. Some freshers find that energising; others find it exhausting.

What you get in exchange is a career where your degree stops mattering after your first role, where progress is visible and fast, and where the skills transfer internationally.

If you want a fuller picture of what the transition and training actually involve, our SDR program covers the structure, and the outcomes are published openly in our placement report.

Whether you go through a program or build the path yourself, start with the portfolio. It is what turns a fresher application into a conversation.
